Angela Acocella, PhD

About me

I am a postdoctoral researcher of Transportation, Logistics, and Operations Management at the School of Economics and Management of Tilburg University in the Netherlands.

I hold a PhD from the Massachusets Institute of Technology (MIT) in Logistics & Transportation Engineering, a MSc in Systems Engineering, Technology, and Policy also from MIT, and a BSc in Mechanical Engineering from Rensselaer Polytechnic Insistute (RPI). Prior to my PhD, I worked as a Research Associate and Case Writer at Harvard Business School (HBS).

My research interests lie in behavioral analytics and operations management. In particular, I have focused on incorporating uncertainty into strategic freight procurement decisions, contracting, and the digitization of freight matching. I utilize data science and machine learning methods to model complex decisions under uncertainty.

I work closely with industry partners to and develop empirical models that can offer insights to help guide strategic decisions.

My postdoctoral research is supported by DINALOG, the Dutch Institute for Advanced Logistics, and and the Dutch Research Council (NWO). My PhD work was supported by the United Parcel Service (UPS) Doctoral Fellowship and the MIT SCALE Network Doctoral Fellowship.
